What Happened to Mario Lopez?
Mario Lopez, an American actor and television host, suffered from an undiagnosed illness as a child that prevented his stomach from fully forming at birth. As a result, Mario lost four pounds due to an inability of his stomach to digest meals properly. His parents vividly remember this difficult childhood period for their son – they even saw a Catholic priest give Mario his last rights just in case something were to happen to his health.
Mario’s father decided not to abandon his son. He took Mario away from the hospital and brought him to an alternative healer known as Bruja in Ensenada, Mexico who had helped treat his father’s leg wound which wasn’t treated by Western medicine. Bruja had previously healed Mario’s leg injury too!
Mario credits Bruja with saving his life when he was an infant, believing she brought him back from near death. This experience has cemented Mario’s faith in alternative medicine and traditional healing practices.
Mario was diagnosed with an illness during childhood; however, it has not impacted him negatively for an extended period of time and he is currently flourishing professionally. Mario is best known for portraying A.C. Slater on Saved by the Bell: The College Years as well as in its 2020 sequel series.
Mario has not only appeared as an actor, but he has also hosted Dancing With the Stars Season 3, Extra and Access Hollywood magazine shows and even hosted Dancing With the Stars itself! He continues his film and television career while currently producing various projects of his own.
Mario Lopez was born October 10, 1973 in Chula Vista, California to Elvira Soledad Trasvina and Mario Alberto Lopez Perez of Mexican origin and raised as part of a Catholic family environment. Today he has three children of his own.
Mario Lopez’s childhood illness led him to recognize the power of alternative and traditional healing practices such as Mexican witch doctor Bruja and their healing methods, including curanderas’ ancient techniques. Although many remain skeptical of such practices, Latinos remain trustful of curanderas’ ancient healing methods and remain committed believers in them.
