It also gives some of the best battery life for any computer. Without compromise on Style or Capability. I am making it one of the best Windows laptops that one can buy.
At CES 2021, Asus announces the ROG Zephyrus G15. It packs up to GeForce RTX 3080 GPU and AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS CPUs, and ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14’s Price and Configurations
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14’s compact 14-inch Gaming Laptop offers more power for a more affordable price than gaming enthusiasts may expect. It is starting at the cost of $1,049 and ranging up to $1,999.
Zephyrus G14’s provides a ton of value in its smooth small carriage. Currently, though, discount pricing will increase G14 to $849 at Best Buy for the base model arrangement.
The review unit sells for the price of $1,449. It gives arguably the best mix of power and value we have seen for the Zephyrus G14, provides an AMD Ryzen 9-4900HS processor, 16GB memory and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU with 6GB of VRAM.
It is a powerhouse that will handle most gaming demands with ease. It is also ready for Gaming and Productivity use, with the 1TB SSD for storage and a 1080p 120Hz display.
The base model of the Zephyrus G14 laptop sells for the price of $1,049. With the less powerful Ryzen 9-4900HS CPU and Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU. It has the RAM and Storage Capacity cut in half 8GB and 512GB SSD standard. One will still get a decent gaming machine. But without the skill offers on better arrangements.
At the top of the menu price of $1,999 configuration, it has the same Ryzen 9-4900HS CPU, RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU of our review unit. The same RAM and storage allotment, but its abilities of 1440p, 60Hz display panel. It gets some cool Bells and Whistles. Including a Mini LED RGB display on the lid is called the AniMe Matrix display.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14: Design
Design-wise, it is something of a small surprise. As gaming laptops go, it is exceptionally Slim and Light. Fill more gaming skills into its 14-inch carriage than the other comparable Ultrabook from the past few years.
It also measures 12.8 x 8.7 x 0.7 inches; the compact Zephyrus G14 weighs just 3.5 pounds, makes it the most minor and Lightest Gaming Laptop on the market. The computer owes its lightweight to the materials that make up its muscular body. With the rigid Magnesium and Aluminium uses for the Carriage, Deck and Lid.
But the compact design missing a couple of features—drops to cuts the Weight and Size. Most remarkable is the lack of a Webcam. At the same time, the display’s slim bezels don’t leave much room for a camera above the screen.
There is no Webcam below it or on the laptop’s deck. Suppose one wants to Video Chat or Stream yourself playing on Twitch. One will need to pick up a separate camera.
Our review unit came in a smooth looking white finish. Paired with a Metallic Silver Deck. For a colour scheme that Asus calls “Moonlight White.” Asus also gives the laptop in a more restrained “Eclipse Gray.” It has a near-black finish on the lid and a matching deck, with the black keys on the Keyboard.
Around the outside corner of the carriage are several ventilation grilles. These are necessary for any high-performance laptop with heat-generating components inside. The design has a stylish rich along the back attach edge. There the grilles have an Angular look and a Triangular three-dimensional design.
The laptop’s back edge is also unique in that it has an attached drop lid. It increases the back end of the laptop slightly when it opens. It puts the Keyboard in a more comfortable direction, increases the display just a little for more comfortable viewing.
The stylish design also puts one twist on a frequent-ignores part of the laptop’s lid. The Smooth, Flat surface of the cover appears to be featured with a pattern of dots across half the lid’s surface. A closer inspection comes out that these dots are tiny holes.
The result is a very close look that is surprisingly depressing for a gaming laptop. But never fear RGB fanatics; Asus has minicomputers for one. At the same time, our review unit had only the hole or dot texture across the lid.
Asus also gives the Zephyrus G14 a display of Micro LED lights. You called the AniMe Matrix display that let per amount hole glow with RGB goodness. One can then turn those dots into an animated large tent. One can customize with Text and Graphics.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14: Ports
Along the sides of the laptop, one will find several Handy Ports; on the right are two USB 3.0 ports and a USB Type-C port. Kensington lock place also lets one physically secure the laptop if one is worried about someone walking off. With the very soon portable gaming machine.
On the left were the power connector, an HDMI 2.0b output and another USB-C port. These offers to charge for the laptop—DisplayPort for the work to a monitor. A combination Audio jack gives one Headphone and Mic support.
For wireless connectivity, the Zephyrus G14 is also equipped with Wi-Fi 6 (Gig+) and Bluetooth 5.0. Lots of results of speed for Gaming. Even without an Ethernet connection. Speedy connectivity for wireless devices like Mice and Speakers.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 review, Display
The review unit came outfits with a 14-inch 1080p 120Hz display. At the same time, I would have loved a higher resolution panel. Asus only gives its 1440p WQHD resolution with a lower 60Hz refresh rate. I will usually choose higher refresh rates over the marginal resolution gains.
The panel itself offers decent Colour and Brightness. According to our colourimeter, the meeting produces 117% of the sRGB colour instrument. It is slightly better than the Dell G7 15 (114%). Asus ROG Strix Scar III (110%), and remarkably better than the Razer Blade 15 (105%).
Its brightness is also above the average, with 323 nits. It was topping the Dell G7 15 (303 nits), leaves both Asus ROG Strix Scar III and Razer Blade 15 looks a little transparent.
As I was rushing through the dark area of Batman’s Gotham City in Arkham Origins, I was pleased to see that bright Neon sign glows with the vibrant Reds and Greens. The darkened environments were never too Dark for good visibility or to repeat washing.
Even better of the gaming experience is smooth and rapid vibration-free. Thanks to AMD Free Sync. one may be scratching the head over the pairing of Free Sync with the G14’s Nvidia’s GPU. But the recent updates from Nvidia let the two technologies work together. The result is Buttery Smooth.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 review: Audio
With a pair of 2.5-watt speakers. Another couple of 0.7-watt tweeters. The Zephyrus G14 offers strong sound and significant volume for such a small laptop.
Listen to Whitey’s “Somebody, Grab the Wheel”. I was happy with the richness of the sound if it was the crash and pop of the drums. He heavily pulls Guitar and Vocals. I can feel the crushing guitars and a decent amount of lowest pitch in Chevelle’s ” Emotional Drought. But the songs also came through clearly and never got lost in the mix.
All of the sounds are powers by Dolby’s Atmos technology. It handles Audio processing. The includes Dolby Atmos app lets one pick from the several preset audio modes. Rearrange for Gaming, Movies and Voice-centric media. The presets is called Dynamic, Game, Movie, Music and Voice. One can also create custom presets using the graphical EQ options to bring the sound to the taste.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 review: Gaming performance
Armes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU with 6GB of VRAM. Zephyrus G14 is gaming large that packing serious Muscle into the 14-inch frames.
Playing games such as Batman: Arkham Origins and Doom Eternal, I have noticed some fan noise. As the Thermal Management kicks on. But it is quiet than many other gaming laptops. Not much louder than the several standard Non-Gaming Laptops I have used.
The Display will also take advantage of Nvidia’s new conflict with AMD Free Sync. It lets one enjoy tear-free Gaming with an Nvidia card and AMD-compatible displays. On the laptop, that means streaming devices gameplay whether I was fighting with a violent person in Gotham. It is taking electricity to the resembling villains in Doom Eternal.
Our benchmark tests confirms the impressive gaming skill of the Zephyrus G14. They deliver strong frame rates in a wide range of games at 1080p resolution and demanding the settings.
It’s a testament to how more power the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q GPU and 6GB of VRAM will fit. Into such a compact carriage without overheating and being pleasant to touch.
On Shadow of the Tomb Raider, run in benchmark mode at the highest settings. The Zephyrus G14 had bend out 49 frames each second. Fps and matching the Dell G7 15 (49 fps with an RTX 2060 GPU) and cornering ahead of Razer Blade 15 46 fps with a GTX 1660 Ti and at the same time falling just a few frames short of the Asus ROG Strix Scar III 55 fps with an RTX 2060 GPU.
In Hitman, you are running at Ultra settings. The Zephyrus G14 marks with a notch 87 fps, ahead of both the Asus ROG Strix Scar III (86 fps). The Razer Blade 15 (80 fps) falls behind the Dell G7 15 (117 fps).
But the Zephyrus G14 delivered in Grand Theft Auto V. There blew away the competition with 115 fps. It is nearly doubling the mid-60’s frame rates of the competition. Including the Dell G7 15 (66 fps) or the Asus ROG Strix Scar III and Razer Blade 15 (64 FP either).
And the Zephyrus G14 also gets one ready to secure on the Headset for VR. She is scoring a solid 9.8 out of 11 on the SteamVR performance test. But at the same time, the system will let one game in VR.
It did not lead the pack on the ahead. Asus ROG Strix Scar’s III 10.3 and the Dell G7 15 11’s scores will be better.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 review: Performance
But life is not all Gaming and VR, the Zephyrus G14’s AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS processor. The 16GB of memory also making it capable of producing a process of information Machine.
During one’s use of the laptop, I was able to run the dozens of Google Chrome tabs at once. Without any decline. Most Non-Gaming services never even kick on the fans to cool things down.
In the general performance tests, such as Geekbanch 4.3, the Zephyrus G14 scored 30,181 points. Well, the above average for a 14-inch laptop. Forward of both the Dell G7 15 23,863 and the Scar III 23,196. Significantly better than the Razer Blade 15 19,542.
Video conversion just only made the Zephyrus break a sweat. A brake operates by hand conversion in just under 7 minutes (6:59). That type of transcoding work typically slows even the fastest systems—Dell G7 15 (8:05) closest with much more than an extra minute. At the same time, Asus ROG Strix Scar III (10:34) and Razer Blade Pro (10:47) was slow.
Zephyrus G14 owes some of the speed to a zippy 1TB SSD. It copies our 4.97GB test folder in 4.5 seconds, at a transfer rate of 1,131 megabytes each second (MBps). That is twice as fast as the Razer Blade Pro’ 256GB PCIe SSD/ITB HDD combo (565.5 MBps).
The Zephyrus G14’s leaves the G7 15’s 256GB SSD (127 MBps), scar III’s 1TB SSD (525 MBps) in the dust. Even among the non-gaming systems. It is a speed demon compares to the Dell XPS 13 2020s 512GB SSD 627 MBps.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14: Keyboard
It is a standard QWERTY layout with tiles keys. With the decent spacing between the keys. Better to replicate a Gaming keyboard’s typing experience.
Besides the G14’s smaller size, it does not have a corner-to-corner keyboard. Typing on it can feel a little uncomfortably small. Moreover, the spacing of the keys helps to make this. The essential travel feels reasonably deep with an acceptably responsive typing feel.
The keyboard’s backlight, moreover, is just wrong. Each key has transparent lettering that glows with white when the backlight turns on, a fairly common design choice. The letter seen positions directly keycap post.
It does not let as much light through. The design gives each key a dark shadowy spot right in the center of the letter.
The illuminate from behind letters also does not sufficiently contrast. Through the light silver colors of the keys. It is making them less clear enough to read. When the illuminate from the back is on in all but relatively dark conditions, it may not be an issue with the black-finish model. But it certainly was a problem in our review unit.
However, the more significant issue is the light leakage around. Through the edges of each keycap. When views at a normal angle. The LED backlight can see through the gaps of each essential well. They were lighting up the keyboard like a Christmas tree.
Additionally, the silver coating of the keycaps is seen much thinner around the corners of each tile-shaped key. Meaning that the corners of the keys will sometimes glow white when they should not.
The lighting not entirely accurate across the whole key. The result is very ununiform and makes for a surprisingly unpolished note in an otherwise faultless design.
One other odd behavior on our review unit, both the “I” and neighboring “K” keys, looks like they had been depressing. It would not spring back up to the proper height to compare the rest of the keys, whether a defect in the review unit damages us from shipping or previous reviews. We reach out to Asus on this issue. It will update the review once we know more.
Above the keyboard are dedicating buttons for volume control and mic muting. Republic Of Gamers control panel that lets one rearrange the system’s performance. Called ROG Armoury Crate, the tool gives one a Handy Dashboard face to face for managing the CPU, GPU. The fan performance, allowing one to twist another setting.
At the same time, it may not get more use in Gaming. Zephyrus G14 also has a wonderfully good Touchpad. It is a 4.1 x 2.4-inch touchpad with a smooth glassy surface, with Clean, Distinct Clicks and Good Right or Left Click Distinction, even if the actual clicking depth is a little shallow. Multitouch gestures and two-finger movements all work. I use laptops that Browse, Work, and Play.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 review: Battery life
We did not expect the battery life to be formidable for all of the Zephyrus G14’s gaming skills and raw power for daily productivity. After all, gaming laptops are famous for their short endurance. They frequently came in at times too short of making it by a full day of Work or School.
But the Zephyrus G14 blow us and the competition out, with an outstanding of 11 hours. The 32 minutes of continuous Web Surfing at 150 nits screen brightness. There is longer than the Dell G7 15 3:12. Scar III (5:09), or if otherwise, long-lives Razer Blade 15 (5:48).
The Zephyrus G14 has nearly doubled that time. I gave it one hour and hours of usable battery without ever having to find a wall outlet. That is long enough to head out for a day without even having to bring the charger along.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 review: Heat
Despite heat-generating severe components inside a slim metal carriage, the Zephyrus G14 did not have any problem with heat.
In our standard heat test, it involves 15 minutes of streaming full HD video. The underside of the laptop peaks at 88 degrees Fahrenheit. Well under the 95-degree mark, where we find the heat uncomfortable. The topside Keyboard and Touchpad temperatures also stay cool—measuring 82 and 74 degrees, respectively.
Under a heavier load for more extended periods, like Gaming for 45 minutes, the laptop does get noticeably warm. Still, the Zephyrus G14 does not seem to get the dangerously hot-to-the-touch dangers that some gaming systems have.
Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 review: Judgement
It is not just a great gaming laptop. But also the smallest gaming laptop on the market. It boasts the longest-lasting battery of any gaming laptop we have seen. The Display is rock solid, audio rich, and robust. The performance gives by the G14’s AMD Ryzen 9-4900HS processor and Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q Graphics Card is some of the best.
One will find this side of a gaming desktop. The phenomenon that one can get all of this for an absurd amount of money is also pretty impressive.
The system has some obvious problems, such as the missing Webcam—the surprisingly done keyboard. But besides those relatively minor issues, we find in our Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 review. Asus’ latest gaming machine is an impressively capable and well-designed gaming laptop.
It delivers better performance than any similar size gaming system, frequently by a large margin. It handily beats the more expensive Razer Blade Pro. It is less costly and portable than the closest competitors. It’s our favorite small gaming laptop—one of the Best Gaming Laptops that ever made.
So, it is essential information on the topic of Review’s Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 with Ryzen 9 4900HS.
