Clean Your Home:Fast House Cleaning Tips
1. Clean the whole house, not one room at time
Cleaning is much more efficient if you pick one task (dusting, vacuuming, mopping) and do the same task in every room in the house, rather than cleaning the kitchen, the bathrooms and then the bedrooms. Doing it that way prevents you from feeling like you’re in an endless cleaning cycle, starting the same task over and over again.
2. Gather all your cleaning tools in a caddy
Whether it’s a caddy, bucket or tote, having everything you need to clean in one portable place makes it much easier to get the job done. You won’t waste time looking for tools while you Clean Your Home, and don’t have to worry about gathering them before your next go around.
3. Clear the clutter
Before you even start cleaning, go room to room and pick up the clutter. As you pick up each item – magazines, well-read paperbacks, old sneakers – consider whether you should put it away, toss it or donate it.
4. Dust and vacuum
Before you start dusting, make sure ceiling fans are turned off. Concentrate your dusting on the tops of furniture and the undersides of shelves, on handrails, picture frames, knickknacks and TV screens. For hard-to-reach areas, like blinds and upper shelves, tie a microfiber cloth to the end of a mop or broom. Change the sheets in the bedrooms before you vacuum.
5. Wipe mirrors and glass
Use one damp microfiber cloth, followed by one dry cloth in wiping Clean Your Home all the mirrors and glass surfaces.
6. Disinfect countertops and surface areas
Go through your house and wipe down the hard surfaces – from countertops, appliances and cabinets to doorknobs, light switches, TV remotes and telephones. You should disinfect some of those surfaces, particularly the ones that might deliver germs to people’s fingers and faces. Make a nontoxic disinfection solution by mixing one-fourth to a half cup of white or apple cider vinegar with a cup of water.
7. Focus on tubs, sinks and toilets
Spray cleaner on the kitchen sink then on bathroom sinks, tubs and toilets. Let it sit for a few minutes so the cleaner has time to dissolve dirt and stains. Then return to the kitchen and start scrubbing. Don’t forget to wipe down the inside of the microwave. Clean toilets last.
While in the kitchen, you also want to make sure your garbage disposal is in tip-top shape. If you aren’t sure the best way to clean a garbage disposal, click here for some useful DIY garbage disposal cleaning tips.
8. Sweep, then mop
Sweep the kitchen and bathroom floors. Start mopping from the farthest corner of the room and move backwards towards the doorway (that is, don’t mop yourself into a corner). Rinse the mop every time you complete a 4-by-4-foot area.
9. Keep moving when you vacuum
Don’t worry about getting every nook and cranny when you vacuum. Just keep moving through the house, running the vacuum in every carpeted room in one pass through.
Some tasks don’t need to be done each week. These include waxing the furniture, Clean Your Home of windows, and washing area rugs and bath mats. Inspect these accessories and use your own judgment.
10. Don’t forget to routinely wash your cleaning tools
An often overlooked part of cleaning the house is maintaining your cleaning tools. Using a dirty mop or a vacuum with a full bag is much less effective, and you’ll end up spending more time trying to clean.
11. Make cleaning a group activity
Making cleaning a team effort is one of the best ways to clean a house fast. Schedule a time in advance with your family, and assign tasks to each person. Working together can add some fun to cleaning, and your house will be sparkling in no time.
While you’re cleaning make sure to check on home maintenance items, such as a faulty sink that may cause water damage.

The Best LED Light Bulbs for Smart Homes

It should be simple to replace light bulbs, even smart ones. Simply attach a google home max white to a lamp and pair it with your smartphone. You won’t have to navigate dark hallways or hunt for a switch. Many allow you to adjust the color.
The google home max white Bulb Color is our favorite smart bulb. It can reach low dimming levels and has the brightest LEDs we have tested. This makes it ideal for entertaining or reading comfortably. It is also one of our most affordable color-adjustable bulbs. The intuitive app makes it as simple as simply screwing in a bulb.
Things to Know
Color bulbs can emit millions of colors; some white models can switch from cool to warm tones (expressed in K or degrees Kelvin).
You can set up smart bulbs via an app on your smartphone. However, you can also use Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit or Google Assistant to control them.
Our pick
Smart light bulbs: The best
This smart bulb is affordable and one of our favorites. Although it doesn’t have any special effects, it offers excellent colors and reliable basic functions, such as remote control, scheduling, and timers.
Compatible with: IFTTT, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa
The Wyze Bulb Color has a brightness of 1,100 lumens. This is equivalent to a 75-watt bulb. It connects to your home Wi-Fi and is one of the brightest bulbs that we have tested.
Most bulbs emit about 800 lumens. It is a bright bulb, but it’s affordable, easy to use, and has a wide color-temperature range. You can also dim it as low or high as you want.
The timers and scheduling work reliably. There are also neat features like the ability to replicate sunrise or sunset, Vacation Mode, Power Loss Recovery, and how your bulb will be set after it turns back on after a power outage.
Runner-up
This model is less expensive than other Philips models, and it emits bright colors. It can also be used with smart platforms and has Scenes (presets for color and dimness).
Compatible with: Amazon Alexa and Apple Siri Shortcuts, Google Assistants, IFTTT, SmartThings
The google home max whiteWiFi LED Color Bulb is an excellent choice if you want to change colors at holidays, dinner parties, or for fun.
The bulb produces brilliant white light, and great-looking colors, and can be programmed to create special effects. You can choose from a variety of white colors that will suit your needs, whether you are looking for task lighting or relaxing at home.
The google home max white has several presets such as Party, Christmas, Fireplace, and Christmas, the ability to save favorite colors and scenes, and a Vacation Mode that will turn the bulb on and off randomly to make it appear you are home even though you are not.
Philips Wiz bulbs cannot be used with Philips Hue bulbs. We recommend that you use Hue bulbs instead.
Great also
Although the Meross bulb has a lower brightness range than our top two choices, it is easy to use, offers a wide color palette, and can be used with all major smart-home platforms.
Compatible with: Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit, Google Assistants, IFTTT, SmartThings
The Meross MSL120 Smart WiFi LED Bulb is compatible with all major smart-home platforms, including Apple’s HomeKit. It does not require a hub.
You can also trigger it to turn off or on based on any other smart home device such as a smart plug, camera, water leak sensor, or smart plug. It can also be used to voice command Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant. Although it doesn’t have any special effects or produce as many white tones as our top picks, it still has enough brightness for everyday usage.
It is also cheaper than other HomeKit-compatible bulbs.
Upgrade
Smart lighting at its best
Although Hue bulbs can be expensive, they can be paired with many other Hue devices. All of these devices communicate wirelessly to avoid range issues. Hue supports all smart-home platforms.
Compatible with: Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit, Google Assistants, IFTTT, SmartThings
The Philips Hue White smart light bulbs and Color Ambiance smart lights create vivid, colorful scenes that you can control using Bluetooth and your phone.
The real magic comes when you add a Hue hub or a device such as the Amazon Echo with a Zigbee wireless Hub. You can control your bulbs remotely and use scheduling to integrate them with other Hue accessories and smart-home platforms.
It’s also more reliable than other wireless systems because the Zigbee connection is independent of your home’s Wi-Fi (it creates its very own mesh network between devices), Hue bulbs can be more costly than the other options.
We recommend the White and Color Ambiance A19 Starting Kit which includes three bulbs and a Hue hub as well as the Hue Dimmer Switch.
