10 things you didn’t know about Damon Salvatore

Damon Salvatore: The Vampire Diaries is more than simply a love tale; it’s also a storey about forgiveness and redemption, and no one personifies this better than Damon.

Fans of The Vampire Diaries can’t get enough of their favourite characters, even if the programme ended in 2017. The Damon-Elena-Stefan love triangle is still one of the most epic of all time, and it continues to make women swoon.

The Vampire Diaries isn’t just about love; it’s also about forgiveness and atonement, and Damon is possibly the best example of this on the show. Damon transforms from a straight-up evil to a kind and supporting brother, boyfriend, and friend. He has a lot of failures, which makes the audience want to cheer for him even more.

10 things Damon Salvatore

Damon Salvatore

Ian Somerhalder, who played Damon for eight seasons from 2009 to 2017, is now starring in Netflix’s V Wars, another vampire show. Somerhalder, on the other hand, will always be associated with Damon as the guy who eventually gets the girl in TVD. Even the most ardent followers don’t know everything there is to know about Damon Salvatore.

Fans were supposed to despise Damon after he killed Jeremy Gilbert.

Damon is the clear villain when The Vampire Diaries begins. However, as the book unfolds, Damon’s terrible behaviour is offset by some good deeds: he saves Stefan from the tomb vampires, assists his brother in working through his Jack the Ripper phase, and develops a genuine connection with Elena. He also becomes an anti-hero when he expresses concern about the threat posed to Mystic Falls by some very ancient and angry vampires.

The show’s co-creator Kevin Williamson told Digital Spy that fans’ unwavering commitment to Damon makes writing for the character challenging. Because there was a push-pull to have Damon go dark and then redeem himself, the authors elected to have Damon kill Elena’s brother (he snaps his neck in season 2’s episode) “New World, Brave).

Jeremy survives owing to the Gilbert ring, which Damon acknowledges to Elena he was unaware of at the time he acted. Having Damon do something indefensible and terrible was the most efficient method to make Elena and fans loathe him.

Damon and Elena Were Never Supposed To Get Married

Fans of Stelena will be disappointed. Fans began pressing for Damon and Elena to hook up during season 2, according to show co-creator Julie Plec. The writers had to work extra hard to keep the two distinct. Katherine’s reappearance, revealing Elena’s doppelganger’s destiny, the arrival of Originals Klaus and Elijah, Caroline’s transformation into a vampire, and Tyler’s transformation into a werewolf all proven to be excellent distractions. Stefan’s attention is drawn to Elena rather than his bloodlust, and Damon reacts angrily after being rejected by both Katherine and Elena.

Plec felt like a normal person. Elena would never completely fall for Damon since it would be unlike of her. Stefan and Elena are supposed to find each other as doppelgangers, but owing to diehard Delena fans, Stefan never has a chance.

For the role of Damon, there was fierce competition.

Several of Somerhalder’s co-stars, including Michael Trevino (Tyler Lockwood), Zach Roerig (Matt Donovan), Nathanial Buzolic (Kol Mikaelson), and David Gallagher (Seventh Heaven), auditioned for the role of the roguish anti-hero.

Paul Wesley, who also auditioned for the role of Salvatore the Elder. Somerhalder admits he blew his initial audition and had to rehearse to persuade CBS chief Les Moonves that he was the proper person for the job.

Ian Somerhalder Had Another Vampire Role Audition

Somerhalder, who grew up in Covington, Louisiana (about 38 miles from New Orleans), revealed in a Newsweek interview that he’s fascinated by the city’s “vampire aura and legend.”

Somerhalder auditioned for the role of Jason Stackhouse on True Blood before earning the role of Damon Salvatore. “I just couldn’t persuade Alan Ball that I was the one in charge. Then I didn’t receive it, which was quite disappointing.” Somerhalder admitted that watching the show took him a while.

Damon Appreciates Having His Humanity Restored

When Damon decides to accept the cure in Season 6, Stefan shows his brother the dark side of being human, anticipating that Damon’s decision will end his love with Elena. Fans are unaware of the specifics of Elena and Damon’s relationship. Elena says in the conclusion that she and Damon will have a long and happy life together. Elena does become a doctor (as seen on The Originals) and practises in Mystic Falls with her husband, and they have a daughter named Stefanie (confirmed on Legacies).

Is Damon going to open a bar? Is he the sexiest stay-at-home dad you’ve ever seen? What is Damon’s daily routine like as a human? Damon, according to Somerhalder, would enjoy simple pleasures like as fresh air and “not have to worry about some otherworldly, powerful monster attempting to destroy him or anyone he knows.”

Damon Isn’t Going To Show Up On Legacies

Ian Somerhalder is more than just a good-looking actor. Somerhalder directed three episodes of The Vampire Diaries in addition to playing in them: “The Downward Spiral” (season 6, episode 16), “Days of Future Past” (season 7, episode 16), and “We Have History Together” (season 7, episode 16). (season 8, episode 8). He told ET Online that he’d love to go behind the scenes on Legacies.

“I’d really like to speak with Jules (Plec). I’d really like to direct one of [the Legacies] episodes “ETonline spoke with Somerhalder. Paul Wesley, Somerhalder’s on-screen brother, directed “The Boy Who Still Has a Lot To Do,” a recent episode of The Originals spin-off.

Damon’s Reading Material Is Most Likely Not Coincidental

Many people thought Ian Somerhalder to be a contender for the role of kinky billionaire Christian Grey in E.L. James’ bestselling novel 50 Shades of Grey. Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam was cast in the role, but he dropped out and was replaced with Jamie Dornan. Despite rumours to the contrary, Somerhalder was never unhappy with the outcome, owing to his demanding schedule on The Vampire Diaries.

Damon can be seen reading the titular literature in Season 8, Episode 1 of the show. When he’s not harvesting bodies for Sybil or souls for Cade, this is how he passes the time.

Somerhalder Damon wasn’t supposed to be a nice guy, right?

During season 2, Damon develops a romantic relationship with Rose (Lauren Cohan of The Walking Dead), but their relationship is cut short when Rose is bitten by a werewolf, which proves fatal, and the end isn’t easy or painless during “The Descent.”

Damon uses some of his vampy mind tricks to help Rose get through her ordeal. Julie Plec, who co-created the sequence with Somerhalder and spoke to ETonline about it, said it’s one of her favourites. The actor was first sceptical of the concept. “Because it revealed a side of Damon that I despised – I despised it. Kevin [Williamson] and Julie [Plec] had to beat it into my brain because I was so adamantly opposed to it “Damon can’t remain a one-trick pony forever. He can’t just exist as a one-dimensional evil.”

In an earlier draught of the finale, Damon does not have a happy ending.

Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, the show’s co-creators, plotted out the series’ conclusion throughout season 2. Both Salvatore brothers decided to die saving the girl they loved and watch her live out her days on the other side. Elena would have been content with any mortal, including Matt Donovan. However, Elena’s actress Nina Dobrev’s choice to leave after season 6 shifted the game.

According to EW, Plec said, “We needed to commit to seeing Damon and Elena through to the conclusion, I felt. I’d have wanted to have been able to see if Stefan and Elena could have found their way back to each other if Nina hadn’t departed.” Elena’s choice could have ultimately prevailed over Stefan’s.

Originally, the series’ final line was different.

When Damon and Stefan see one other in the afterlife, Damon says, “Hello, Brother,” the identical sentence he used to Stefan in the premiere. While Stefan is serious and, let’s face it, a little humourless, Damon’s sardonic sense of humour is one of his better qualities. “The initial version was ‘Oh, I see they have hero hair in heaven,'” Kevin Williamson, one of the show’s co-creators, told Entertainment Weekly.

As much as Damon’s comments about his younger brother’s flawlessly coiffed hair may amuse certain fans, the latter choice of final remarks is the better one.
