Goku: The Dragon Ball franchise has spanned over 30 years of Goku and the Z-Warriors’ escapades. In each epic, the character’s age is listed.

Goku’s age has evolved dramatically during the course of the Dragon Ball universe’s canon, which spans over 30 years. The franchise has transported the Saiyan hero and the Z-Warriors to a variety of locations over the years, including the Saiyan home world and King Kai’s planet.

The original Dragon Ball focuses on the exploits of a young Goku, but Dragon Ball Z follows Goku after he has established his own family with Chi-Chi and Gohan.

How Old Goku in each ball franchise has spanned

Goku

As Goku’s character grows immensely, the three Dragon Ball programs conspire to put him through the wringer, with Goku unlocking new forms throughout the franchise.

The child who was beaten up by both Yamcha and Tien grows up to be powerful enough to fight gods. Goku, who beats the odds by becoming a Super Saiyan and defeating Frieza in Dragon Ball Z, transcends his preconceived limitations and now has access to a variety of Super Saiyan forms.

Viewers have seen Goku as a child, a teenager, a young man, and even a grandfather over the years. Every saga is usually followed by a time jump of various sizes, some of which are larger than others. Dragon Ball Z, for example, has time jumps that span as far as seven years into the future.

This occurs significantly less frequently in Dragon Ball Super, which follows a much more linear narrative. The Super Saiyan Goku in Dragon Ball Z would, of course, age as a result of these time leaps, making him older in succeeding sagas (that exist in Dragon Ball canon). Here’s how old Goku has become in each Dragon Ball story.

The saga of Emperor Pilaf

The Emperor Pilaf Saga is the first arc in the original Dragon Ball anime, and it is the story in which the young Saiyan meets Bulma, Yamcha, Krillin, and Master Roshi for the first time.

Despite his young appearance, Goku is said to be 14 years old when his quest begins. Goku was eventually retconned as being 11 years old, with the explanation that when asked his age at the commencement of the Pilaf story, he had problems counting.

Sagas from the Tournament and the Red Ribbon Army

Goku competes in the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament at the age of 12 and faces Master Roshi in the final round. In the same year, he embarks on a quest for the Dragon Balls.

Which pits him and his companions against the Red Ribbon Army, General Blue, and Mercenary Tao in a series of battles. He also met the prophetic Fortuneteller Baba during this period.

Sagas of Tien Shinhan and Demon King Piccolo

Goku keeps himself busy with his training and exploits as the Dragon Ball canon progresses. When Goku is 15, he competes in the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament and loses against Tien in a memorable match (who would later go to be a member of the Z-Warriors). Following his battle with Tien, the adolescent Goku faces his worst foe yet: Demon King Piccolo.

The saga of Piccolo Jr.

Three years later, a visibly older Goku battles Chi-Chi in the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, with the two’s apparent attraction to one other culminating in the couple’s engagement.

Following that, the 18-year-old Saiyan battles the reincarnation of Demon King Piccolo and narrowly defeats him in combat. Of all, Goku has no idea that his most recent foe will soon become one of his closest pals.

Saiyan and Frieza Saga

The Saiyan Saga, which begins with a 23-year-old Goku rearing his small son, Gohan, is the first episode of Dragon Ball Z. After dying in the battle with Raditz, it takes a year for him to be resurrected with the Dragon Balls.

When Goku reappears, he leads the other Z-Warriors in their battle against Nappa and Vegeta. Goku returns to planet Namek after a slow recuperation to assist Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma in surviving a battle with Frieza, the evil which destroyed his planet.

Sagas for Android and Cellphones

Goku returns to Earth two years after Frieza’s defeat, where he encounters Future Trunks and learns of the impending arrival of the terrifying Androids 17 and 18. Goku is said to be 29 years old by the time the androids’ preparations are finished.

Goku and his companions must prepare for another year after the androids are absorbed by Cell before competing in the Cell Games. When Goku (and King Kai) sacrifice themselves to save the planet from Cell’s internal self-destruction weapon, he is 30 years old.

Saga of Buu

After Gohan defeats Cell in Super Saiyan 2, the most significant time jump in the Dragon Ball canon occurs. Goku chooses to remain dead for the entire seven years so that he can continue his training on Otherworld. After using the Spirit Bomb to save the world from Kid Buu, Goku is able to rejoin his family on Earth and rejoin the living.

It’s worth noting that Goku hasn’t physically aged a day in the last seven years because he hasn’t technically been alive at all. Goku is 37 years old; however, based on both of his deaths in the Dragon Ball world, he hasn’t been alive for eight of those years, bringing his physical age closer to 30.

The Saga Of The Gods

As a result, Goku’s tail is advanced four years in Dragon Ball Super. At this time in the series, his son has married Videl, Krillin has joined the police force, Vegeta is adamantly chasing perfection through training, and Goku is a basic, albeit boring, farmer.

When Beerus, the God of Destruction, visits Earth in quest of the famous Super Saiyan God, the 41-year-old Goku’s new conflict-free lifestyle comes to an end.

Sagas of Golden Frieza, Universe 6, and Future Trunks

Between Goku’s fight with Beerus and the return of Frieza in Dragon Ball Super, a year passes, putting Goku at 42 years old. Goku and his companions fight under Beerus against Champa’s team of Universe 6 warriors shortly after defending Earth from the rebuilt Frieza Force.

Future Trunks enlists Goku and Vegeta in the struggle to preserve his timeline from Zamasu and Goku Black. Thus they don’t get much rest after the tournament.

Following the birth of Gohan’s daughter, Pam, at the end of these sagas, Goku has become a grandfather. Videl was pregnant with Pan during the time leading up to Goku’s transformation into a Super Saiyan God, as revealed in a sequence of flashbacks.

The saga of Universal Survival

Between the Future Trunks Saga and the Universal Survival Saga in Dragon Ball Super, there is just a brief canonical gap of a few months. When Goku, now 43 years old, meets seven teams of ten fighters from other universes, he encounters one of the most difficult tests of his life.

Goku is able to aid his team gain a hard-fought victory over Universe 11’s Jiren in the Tournament of Power thanks to his new Ultra Instinct form and notable contributions from characters, including Gohan, Vegeta, and Android 17.
