Apple has released iOS 16.2, the second major update of the iOS 16 operating system. It introduces a variety of new functions and customizations to iPhones. These include karaoke for Apple Music and end-to-end encryption in iCloud backups. There are also new options for Live Activity.

iOS 16.2: Freeform App

Freeform, a digital canvas app, is intended to allow iPad and iPhone users to work together in real-time. Multiple users can share images, notes and web links. All content is visible to everyone.

Apple’s Freeform app can be used with the Apple Pencil and FaceTime to provide visual feedback between Freeform participants

Apple Music Sing

iOS 16.2

Apple Music Sing is now available for Apple Music subscribers. It allows users to sing along with their favorite songs and adjust the volume of the vocals within tracks.

Apple Music Sing is available on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV4K (2022). It works with Apple Music’s real-time lyrics feature and allows you to control the song’s vocal level. You can either sing along to the original artist’s vocals, or you can turn the volume down and take the lead.

iCloud Enhanced Data ProtectioniOS 16.2

Apple has released iOS 16.2 (macOS 13.1), and Advanced Data Protection for iCloud. This uses end-to–end encryption to offer the highest level of cloud security. iCloud already provides protection for

14 sensitive data types using end-to-end encrypted by default. This includes passwords stored in iCloud Keychain or Health data. Advanced-Data Protection users can increase the number of data categories that are protected by end-to-end encryption to 23

Users now have the option to choose whether they want to protect more of their iCloud data such as Photos and Notes. The feature is only currently available for US users. Apple claims it will be available globally by 2023. However, a specific date has not been set.

Some users were critical of Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max smartphones. iOS 16.1 does not allow you to hide notifications or wallpaper when the iPhone is unlocked.

Apple has taken customer feedback into consideration and has made iOS 16.2 available with options that allow users to adjust the detail displayed on their iPhone 14 Pro’s Always On display

iCloud Private Relay Temporary Bypass

Apple’s paid-for iCloud+ services includes a feature called iCloud Private Relay. This is used to encrypt web traffic from your device so that it cannot be intercepted or read by anyone else

Private Relay hides your IP from websites. However, Apple recognizes that sometimes your IP address may need to be visible in certain situations. This is why it added a temporary bypass option.
