The Zacatecas government has expressed its grief at the loss of General Jose Silvestre Urza Padilla who was in charge of the state’s National Guard. According to authorities, the commander of Mexico’s National Guard in Zacatecas killed during an operation against organized criminal activity on Thursday.
The Morena Party governor David Monreal Avila confirmed this and promised that justice will be done for the Thursday murder in Pinos.

General Jose Silvestre Urza Padilla was killed by organized crime. After six hours of fighting, the incident took place in Zacatecas. Urza Padilla sustained injuries and was flown by helicopter to the Secretariat of Public Security hospital for treatment.
The altercation resulted in injuries to three guards and two Investigative Police officers. The incident also saw the deaths of at least five suspect criminals. When the plane touched down in Guadalupe (just a few meters from Military Zone), the National Guard Coordinator died.
Conflict in Zacatecas – Clash with the gunman
After the conflict with an armoured man, General Jose Silvestre Urzua killed. The violence of Mexico’s central state, Zacatecas, has been made possible by conflicts between criminal gangs. Zacatecas is rife with gang fights over drug trafficking. The state saw 1,050 murders last year, which is 200 more than 2020.
To reduce violence, lawmakers approved this month the extension of the military’s role as a security officer until 2028. Congress also decided to give the Army command of the National Guard.
The formation of the National Guard supported by President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador upon his election at the end 2018 to combat organized crime, and eliminate corruption in the police force that replaced it, the federal police.
