When Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Ricky Polston decided to end the practice of sending letters to new Eagle Scouts, his father, Sidney Polston, advised him not to do it. He told him to stay humble.

Polston’s father died in December, after a battle with Alzheimer’s. His mother was a bookkeeper for several retail stores in Graceville. She knew her family had room to grow. That’s why she persuaded Polston to adopt children.

Sidney Polston always told his son to work hard. After he left high school, he went to work on his family farm. Then, he attended law school. During his time there, he was a member of the Law Review.

In 2001, the Florida National Organization for Women challenged the “Choose Life” license plate. It argued that the message violated free speech. Polston defended the state’s law.

Florida Chief Justice Ricky Polston began his career as an accountant. A certified public accountant (CPA) since the early 1980s, he worked in both private practice and the corporate world before becoming an attorney. His business experience has helped him succeed on the bench.

Prior to his election to the Supreme Court, Polston served on the First District Court of Appeal. He was appointed to the court by then-Gov. Charlie Crist in 2008.

Before being appointed to the court, Polston was a law professor at Florida State University. He teaches constitutional law and appellate practice. Since assuming the judicial post, he has been involved in several high-profile cases. Polston has been in the minority on many decisions.

During his time in the court, Polston has also been involved with church activities. In addition, he has been a member of the Tallahassee Bar Association.

Polston’s dissent in the Bush v. Holmes case

The Florida Supreme Court has a new chief justice, and he’s a familiar face at FSU. That’s the first time an alumnus has served on the court. His father passed away last December after a battle with Alzheimer’s.

Polston studied accounting at FSU and worked in the business world for a few years before deciding to pursue law. After earning his degree, he worked as an audit manager at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in Tampa. Later, he joined a boutique commercial litigation firm in Tallahassee.

Polston also taught at Tallahassee Community College. He became known for his “business-like” approach to litigation.

Polston was involved in a high-profile legal case during his career, a dispute over a controversial license plate. The case came to the Florida Supreme Court after the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed a lawsuit.

Polston’s biggest undertaking as chief justice

Ricky Polston is the new chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court. He was elected unanimously. The decision was a vote of confidence for a former certified public accountant. His career has spanned years of service as a commercial litigator and appellate judge.

After graduation, he went to work for Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in Tampa. He later joined a boutique commercial litigation firm in Tallahassee. In the years that followed, he earned a reputation as a hard worker. He was also a member of the American Inn of Court, the Tallahassee Bar Association and the Order of the Coif.

Polston’s experience as an auditor made him well-suited to serve as a judge. As a judge, he has dissented in some cases. However, he has received an AV rating from the Martindale-Hubbell grading system.

The Florida Supreme Court’s top gun Ricky Polston is a busy man, but his wife Deborah Polston deserves a spot in the hall of fame. As a matter of fact, she has 10 children, including 5 daughters and 3 sons. She is a woman of many interests and is an advocate for the underdogs amongst the big dogs.

In this regard, she has done her share of the heavy lifting. Indeed, she was the best-suited woman in the room and is a proud mother in every sense of the word. That is all the more reason to have her on deck and in the know.

A tidbit worthy of a ring of rings, this sexiest of the pack can certainly prove she has no time on her hands.
