Knotless Braids: New Box Style Information You Should Know
Hair can be uncooperative, fussy, or moody. It can be frustrating if your hair doesn’t bend, curl, or sit as you want. knotless braids Hair can be frustrating, time-consuming, expensive, and a hassle. Black women are perhaps the best at this.
Enter, stage left: braids.
Not just any braids. Many Black women now prefer knotless braids to traditional box braids.
The old style is worn by Janet Jackson in “Poetic Justice” in 1993. It involves separating the hair into sections and knotting the roots with synthetic hair.
The hair stylists who create knotless braids start by dividing the hair into sections. But then, they add synthetic hair bit by bit to the braid.
The hair extensions are not tied at the roots so there is very little tension on the scalp. Box braids can sometimes look bulky due to the lack of knots. The braids are flatter in the newer style. Knotless braids are lighter.
Jamilla Dick Quashie, 42 (director of health and safety, New York City Office Chief Medical Examiner), said that it is so simple to manage. She is also a mother of a 6-year-old.
It’s much easier to put my hair up in a ponytail or braid with knotless braids. It’s also a huge difference to not feel the tension in my scalp.
According to hair stylists who are experts in braids for Black women, this style wasn’t very popular until three years ago. Today, most customers opt for a knotless style at salons such as Aminata African Hair Braiding Harlem.
Astou Fall has been working at Aminata for over 20 years. She and her colleagues learned how to make the braids from YouTube tutorials after customers asked for knotless braids in 2020. She said that they practiced for two months on a mannequin until they were comfortable with the technique.
Ms. Fall, 37-year-old Senegalese, said that the knotless braids were initially more difficult because they are something new to her. It was actually easier than regular braids once we became used to it.
Small knots at their roots
Stylists were able to braid faster without having to make small knots at their roots. This resulted in more customers and increased revenue. Aminata offers box braids that are either knotless or not. They cost $140 for hair reaching the back and $180 to reach the waist.
This new style was also in high demand. Before the advent of Instagram’s Instagram Explore, customers could just show up at a salon for African hair braiding without having to book a time. Many hair braiders now require customers to book appointments online. To protect against no-shows, some hair braiders require a $30 deposit. (Aminata African Hair Braiding still requires a $30 deposit.
Meagan Louis, a hairdresser in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush, says that she braids her hair at Soignee BK. She started her salon when the new style was popular.
She stated that she didn’t intend to braid her hair full-time. She graduated from the University of Albany with a biology degree in 2012. She then worked as a technologist at a medical laboratory and did hair braiding after work to supplement her income.
Louis stated, “I would do my 9-5, and then when it’s time to go home, I’ll probably knock out two clients.” “I would do this probably every other day.”
Louis stated that it was becoming more of a full-time job than the real full-time one.
Ms. Louis was reluctant because her parents immigrated to the Grenadines from the Grenadines in order for her to become a doctor.
Ms. Louis stated that she was about to apply for medical school. “It was just a moment when you decide, Is it worth it to continue 11 years to be a surgeon or can you braid your hair and make the same amount?’
Louis eventually quit her lab job. She said that she was able to make her own schedule and spend more quality time with her son and daughter, aged 8 and 4.
Louis stated, “I make more money braiding my hair and have more creativity.” Science is very precise. It works or it doesn’t. It’s scientific, it’s mathematical. You can still be creative and do whatever you want.
Louis was a freelancer until Soignee BK opened in February 2020. After the pandemic, she was unable to visit customers for several months.
She built her salon’s social media presence during those months of isolation. She claimed that after she declared that she was ready for clients again, she booked a month’s worth of appointments in just two minutes.
Now, she accepts new appointments at noon on the 16th of every month. The month fills up quickly. Louis credits her speed and neatness for her success. Her braids look almost like they were made by a machine.
Louis, who is a scientist by nature, insists that customers don’t have more braids on one side than the other. This is a common problem.
Her customers must have at least 4 to 5 inches of hair, and they should arrive with their hair freshly washed and dried. (The older style of braids allowed for a wide range of hair lengths.

At first, Ms. Louis charged $150 per person for medium-sized braids. The same service is now available at a $350 price.
Because it is quicker, she says she prefers to do knotless braids. Customers and stylists agree that the new style is more likely to cause hair damage. Some women lost their hair due to traditional box braids that were tightened and tied close to the scalp.
Ms. DickQuashie, a medical examiner’s assistant, stated that she chose the knotless method because it is gentle. Xia Charles (29), is the salon’s owner in Crown Heights.

Ms. Charles was born in Trinidad and Tobago and learned how to braid her hair from her grandmother at the age of 3. She was an economics student at the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Barbados.
Ms. Charles stated that she would braid extra heads to make money when I got tired of eating ramen. “When I graduated from university, I returned home to Tobago, but couldn’t find work, so I began doing my hair at my sister’s clothing store, in a cooler chair.
She began braiding her hair in a barbershop just a few blocks from her Brooklyn home after she immigrated to the United States in 2017.
Ms. Charles stated that although the barbershop was not ideal, she appreciated it as a learning experience. I was able to see how they operate in America.
Because it causes very little tension on the scalp, the knotless style is gaining popularity.
Braided’s proprietor, Ms. Charles also teaches braiding and has some of her students.
Ms. Charles stated that people want protection, ease, and convenience, which is what knotless braids offer.
After spending five months in the barbershop she was able to rent a booth in a salon. She started sharing photos of her work online to establish a clientele.
One of her specialties was stitching braids. These are cornrows in which the hair is parted horizontally below the braid’s spine. Stitched braids are similar to knotless braids.
They use natural hair, but synthetic hair is fed into the braid to create less tension. Ms. Charles uses a unique method. She divides the stitch with her ring fingers as she braids down.
“Stitch braids are good for your hair,” said Ms. Charles. “Back in the day, they would start with a large bump of synthetic hair and then rip your scalp. You can now start with your hair. We have problems with traction alopecia in black hair.
After some success at her rented booth, she began braiding her hair in her apartment of two bedrooms. Ms. Charles stated, “I ran it as if it were a salon.”
She made a breakthrough in 2018 when she braided Tanisha Thomas’s hair and posted it on Instagram. Soon Cardi B, a rapper, became an Instagram follower of Ms. Charles and was then a customer. Ms. Charles stated that she braids Cardi B’s locks occasionally.
Ms. Charles stated that Cardi B is more likely to get the fishbowl. This is usually just cornrows and then an extension. It doesn’t pull your hair in any way.
Ms. Charles was part of the 2020 hair-braiding team of Beyonce’s visual album “Black Is King”, in which she wore long box braids that were longer than her body.
Charles stated that celebrities are the biggest influencers.
Braided was her first salon, with large bay windows and paper-white walls. She also offers classes in braiding, and sometimes hires her students. She noted that her business was booming and she had purchased her first home within five years.
She says that customers aren’t bothered by high prices if the braids are done correctly.
Ms. Charles stated that although it might be more costly, people will pay if their hair is not damaged. Knotless braids provide protection and convenience.

According to a Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) circular dated March 30, 2022, “Rule 114AAA of the Income-tax Rules provides that if someone’s PAN becomes inoperative, they cannot furnish, intimate or quote it and shall face all consequences under the Act as a result.”
According to an advisory published in The Times of India on March 6, 2023 by the income tax department, here are six consequences of not linking your PAN with Aadhaar.
Your PAN card will no longer function.
Filing an ITR will not be possible.
Pending returns will not be processed.
No refunds can be issued once an order has been placed.
Pending proceedings, such as those related to defective returns, cannot be completed.
Tax will be deducted at a higher rate.

He further went on add that hoped his employees realised how much he loved them. “I know it isn’t professional to tell my employees that I love them. But from the bottom of my heart, I hope they know how much I do. Every single one. Every single story. Every single thing that makes them smile and every single thing that makes them cry. Their families. Their friends. Their hobbies,” he wrote.
