A British actress named Marina Sirtis was born on March 29, 1955. She is most recognized for her role as Counselor Deanna Troi in the four Star Trek feature films and television shows, as well as for her numerous Star Trek franchise appearances. The daughter of Greek parents, John Sirtis and Despina Sirtis, a tailor’s assistant, Marina Sirtis was born in Hackney, London. She was raised in North London’s Harringay neighborhood. Sirtis claims that when she was three years old, her babysitter’s adolescent boys sexually assaulted her.

The trauma of the incident led to Sirtis developing an eating disorder, which she later suffered from. She entered therapy in the 1990s after experiencing the disorder for 20 years and was able to control the trauma and re-learn how to eat healthily. Sirtis auditioned for drama school while still a secondary student, going against her parents’ wishes, and was finally accepted to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

She joined the Connaught Theatre after graduating from Guildhall in 1976 at the age of 21. To advance her career, Sirtis immigrated to the United States in 1986 and settled in Los Angeles. Later on, she obtained US citizenship naturally.
