After hijackers overtook the plane, Mr. Beamer saw his dead copilot lying in the aisle next to the cockpit. His throat was cut. Next, the father-of-two reached for his phone from the back of the plane and attempted to call his wife but couldn’t get through.

Instead, Todd got a G.T.E. Instead, Todd called a G.T.E. operator. He told her what was going on and she connected him to F.B.I. agents. The phone was left connected for 15 minutes, while several Oracle employees organized to take out the terrorists.

Todd and the other passengers were in contact with others via cell phones and in-plane communication. Two planes had destroyed the World Trade Center, which was something they knew. Morgan’s father ordered the flight attendants to boil water and make any weapon. The GTE operator told Morgan’s dad to call his children and wife and tell them how much he loved them.
