Parkland shooter Nikolas Cruz, 19, shot and killed 17 students at Majory Stoneman Douglas High school in Parkland, Florida on February 14, 2018. Cruz was sentenced to 34 consecutive life sentences after a lengthy and difficult trial. This was despite the fact that most of the victims’ families wanted the death penalty.

Personally, I oppose the death penalty. It is hypocrisy for someone to be killed in order to demonstrate that they are wrong. I’d rather see them die in prison. Nikolas Cruz is the only person on Earth who deserves the death penalty.
The man killed 14 students and three school staff members, unapologetically. They were not his concern, so why should we? I don’t.
I would hypothetically not want to see someone die for taking the life of my family member. They should take their time and not go for the easy route. It is not possible to imagine how I would feel in such a situation.
It is important to hear from the families of the victims who advocated for Cruz’s death penalty. These victims have endured an insurmountable amount pain over the past four-and-a-half years. We will never (hopefully!) fully understand their suffering.
