He made his acting debut in Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights as Heathcliff (1992).Fiennes received nominations for the Best Supporting .

Actor Academy Award and Golden Globe Awards for his depiction of Nazi war criminal Amon Göth in Schindler’s List (1993), and he also won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

He was nominated for a second Academy Award, this time for Best Actor, for his portrayal of Count Almásy in The English Patient (1996). He was also nominated for a BAFTA and a Golden Globe.

On December 22, 1962, Fiennes was born in Ipswich, England. He is the oldest child of writer Jennifer Lash (1938-1993) and farmer Mark Fiennes (1933-2004), a photographer.

He possesses Scottish, Irish, and English ancestry. His last name has Norman ancestry. His grandfathers were British Indian Army officer Henry Alleyne Lash (1901-1975) and entrepreneur Sir Maurice Fiennes (1907-1994).

He is the sixth child and the oldest. His siblings include actor Joseph Fiennes, director Martha Fiennes (in whose film Onegin he portrayed the main role), composer Magnus Fiennes, director Sophie Fiennes, and environmentalist Jacob Fiennes.

Michael Emery, his foster brother, is an archaeologist. In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, played Tom Riddle, a youthful Lord Voldemort.

In 1993, shortly after Ralph’s career took off as a result of his Oscar-nominated performance in Steven Spielberg’s World War II movie Schindler’s List, they married, cementing their ten-year partnership.
