Ray Lewis III Transferring From UM to Coastal Carolina

During the past week, rumors have circulated that Ray Lewis III has announced that he has decided to leave the University of Miami and transfer to Coastal Carolina. According to sources, the reason behind this decision is his father’s recent death and his desire to play college football.
Ray Lewis III: Al-Quadin Muhammad returns to UM
Al-Quadin Muhammad has returned to the University of Miami as a redshirt sophomore. He was dismissed from the University of Miami football program for engaging in dealings with a local luxury car rental agency, which was a violation of NCAA rules.
Al-Quadin Muhammad is expected to compete for playing time with Trevis Gipson at defensive end. It is also possible that Kingsley Jonathan or Dominique Robinson will be given a larger role.
The Hurricanes have a lot of talented defensive linemen. However, the team has only signed 20 recruits this year. They will be able to play two games before the NFL celebrates its 100th season.
Defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad was one of the top performers for the Hurricanes last season, finishing with 4.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. He also had 37 tackles (20 solo) and recovered two fumbles.
Davis had 50 tackles and an interception as a sophomore. He also had 11 passes broken up.
Ray Lewis III: Sun Life Stadium will drop in capacity from nearly 76,000 to 66,000 for Dolphins and 55,000 for Hurricanes
Ray Lewis III is the son of former Miami Hurricanes great Ray Lewis. He was a three-star recruit at Lake Mary Prep in Florida. He spent two seasons at the University of Miami before transferring to Coastal Carolina last year.
He was redshirted for the Hurricanes in 2014. As a freshman, he rushed for 1,898 yards and 20 touchdowns. A surprisingly large number for a 5-foot-9, 190-pound running back. But it was his handling of off-field issues that earned him a suspension for the Russell Athletic Bowl.
On April 29, 2017, the news broke that a former Hurricane was in trouble with the law. According to Conway police, Ray Lewis III turned himself in on a criminal sexual assault charge. Apparently, he engaged in a sexual battery on an 18-year-old female.
Thankfully, he was released from jail on a $10,000 bond. But not before he was indicted for a third-degree crime. The charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Ray Lewis III will be a core part of Maryland’s offense
If you’re a fan of the UM Hurricanes, the news that Ray Lewis III is going to leave Miami and sign with Coastal Carolina might be a bit of a bummer. Not to mention that he will no longer be the product of the school’s infamously tight football program. But this isn’t a complete loss.
Despite the snagging of the top linebacker in the conference, there is a silver lining to the situation. The oxford spin on the Hurricanes won’t be replaced in the near future, but the Coastal Carolina Tigers will be a smidge closer to replacing the aforementioned linebacker.
The biggest question is, how will Lewis fare in the Coastal Carolina setting. He has played in the same program since his high school days, so he’s well aware of the team’s storied history.
However, as a student-athlete, he isn’t exactly a household name. After a strong freshman season, he was left to figure it out by himself, and he isn’t the only one. Luckily, he will have plenty of opportunities to prove his mettle in the coming years.
Ray Lewis’ father was a football player
If you’re a fan of Ray Lewis, you might have heard of his father. He was a former NFL player who was known for his two Super Bowl victories.
Aside from his football career, Lewis also has a successful career as a record-setting wrestler. In his youth, Lewis grew up in a family with five other siblings, including his three sisters and one brother.
When he was a teenager, Lewis enrolled in Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Florida. At the time, his mother, Sunseria Jenkins, was sixteen years old.
After finishing his high school career, Lewis began his college football career at Miami University. During his sophomore year, he was named to the All-Big East team. The next season, he added All-Big East honors to his resume, along with Freshmen All-American honors.
He rushed for a staggering 2,321 yards and 29 touchdowns during his junior season. That was enough to earn him the second spot on the “Butkus Award” list.
