Sinkhole Swimming Pool: A Man dies after sinkhole opens under swimming pool in Israel. A man was pulled to his death when a sinkhole opened up beneath the swimming pool he was in. On March 25th, 2009 at 25 miles (40km) south-east of Tel Aviv in Karmi Yosef, Israel, an incident occurred at a villa hosting a company party.
The victim has identified as Klil Kimhi, 32 years old and employed at the company. Another man aged 34 narrowly escaped and required treatment from paramedics at the scene for injuries to his lower body.
Footage from the scene shows swimmers, who were attending a private work party, desperately hanging onto the sides of the pool as it is swallowed up by an enormous sinkhole containing everything including inflatables.
Reports indicate Klil Kimhi fell into a hole that was 43ft (13 metres) deep, and it took rescue teams four hours to reach him. Two elderly homeowners brought before court after arrested on suspicion of causing death through negligence.
A woman who witnessed the hole begin to form attempted to get her friends out of the pool before its victims began sinking in. She described what happened next on Ynet news site: “Seconds later, the ground just dropped… I watched two people just vanish.”

Israeli police issued a statement translated from Hebrew to English and provided to Fox News Digital, noting that after conducting extensive operational searches, The Police, Fire and Rescue Services and IDF Homefront Command had located the missing man – an approximately 30-year-old resident of Tel Aviv – but unfortunately he passed away.
Aviv Bublil, a lifeguard who worked at the pool party, reported to Israeli news site Ynet that at about 2:00 p.m. local time on Saturday, an apparent “vortex” appeared in the pool. She told the outlet she shouted for people to get out of the pool, but they refused.
Bublil speculated that the swimmers may have mistakenly thought it was a game and not realized they were in danger. Police have yet to identify the cause of death for 32-year-old Klil Kimhi, who tragically passed away after a sinkhole opened up in a pool during an Israeli party. “Seconds later,” Bublil recalled, “the ground collapsed into what appeared to be a massive sinkhole. I saw two people–one missing and one among the rubble from above–and my first instinct was to try and get inside–but there was no way in. So they called for help from rescue services.”
Israel’s Channel 12 News reported that there were about 50 attendees at the gathering, while another said there only six people left in the pool when it opened up, according to Israeli media accounts. “The water level suddenly started receding and a hole appeared, creating a vortex that swept two people inside,” an unnamed woman reported to Channel 12 News.
According to local media reports, the homeowner had built the pool without getting planning permission at the site despite known infrastructure problems. Reports in Israel indicate that Kimhi’s body discovered shortly after emergency personnel concluded their search, according to local reports.

“It was an absolutely terrifying tremor,” Kabul resident Khatera told AFP news agency after fleeing her fifth-floor apartment.
Nine of the confirmed deaths occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
According to Afghanistan’s health ministry spokesman, three more people were tragically lost in Laghman province near Pakistan’s border. One child was among them, AFP reported.
Many families had been away from their homes celebrating the Persian New Year or Nowruz when the Earthquake in Pakistan and Afghanistan struck.

Phone lines have been disrupted, and in Pakistan, the highway in the Swat area has been blocked due to landslides.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed disaster agencies to take immediate measures for people’s relief.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, earthquakes were felt across a 1,000 km area that includes India, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan.
Earthquakes are more likely to occur here due to their location at the intersection of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates.
In June 2013, more than 1,000 people died when a 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan’s Paktika province – the country’s deadliest earthquake in nearly 25 years.
