shooting Orlando If you’ve been following news recently, you’ve no doubt heard about the tragic shooting in Orlando last Sunday. The gunman, Omar Mateen, was shot dead after a three-hour standoff with police. According to police officials, he killed 49 people and wounded 53 others in the attack.

Orlando nightclub shooter Omar Mateen pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) in a 911 call made during the shooting. In the call, Mateen said his target was “Baghdadi,” the leader of ISIS. He also mentioned the Boston Marathon bombers.
Despite the claim, investigators have found no evidence of Mateen’s affiliation with ISIS. Rather, the attack’s motives are being investigated as part of a larger investigation into radical Islam and hate crimes.
FBI officials were aware of Mateen for several months before the Pulse club shooting. His name was flagged by the agency after inflammatory remarks made to coworkers, a counter-terrorism official told CNN.
The FBI interviewed Mateen twice, including in 2014. It was unclear whether Mateen had been under surveillance or if his behavior had been flagged.

A new video from the Indianapolis police department sheds light on what happened last Sunday afternoon. The footage features a couple of officers in a smallish sedan at a busy intersection in the near west side.
It was not immediately clear what prompted the cops to show up, but the video does indicate that the two had a shaky start.
They were ordered to wait it out while a second unit arrived. One officer who witnessed the incident said the occupants were treated with respect. IMPD officials have not yet weighed in on whether the men are still on administrative leave.
What is more noteworthy is the fact that this was the first time the Indianapolis Police Department has publicly released body camera footage of its top guns.
Of course, the department’s best and brightest aren’t exactly keen on the topic, but there’s nothing worse than having to defend your badge and reputation.

When a mass shooting occurs, people’s emotions run wild. Survivors have to deal with the demands of life, including family, friends, and even strangers.
Luckily, there are tools to help survivors get through their trauma. These can be found through local mental health providers. In the case of the Orlando shooting, the Community Coalition Against Pulse Museum compiled a 210-page report on the event.
The first thing to know is that most survivors do not require continuous mental health support. However, they may experience relapses in their mental state. Some of the symptoms are similar to those of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), so it’s important to seek professional assistance.
A study conducted by the National Center for PTSD estimates that about 28 percent of those who witness a mass shooting develop PTSD. Studies also show that women are more likely to suffer from a post-traumatic stress reaction than men.
Access points will be set up in downtown Orlando
A number of new controlled entry points will be set up in downtown Orlando starting Friday. These checkpoints are in response to the shooting that occurred near Wall Street Plaza and Orange Avenue on Sunday.
The shooting, which occurred as bars and restaurants were closing for the night, left seven people injured.
Police officials say they will be asking for any video or other information about the shooting to help in their investigation. They also want to receive anonymous tips.

In addition to the access points, a number of other measures have been taken. This includes a safety awareness program called Orlando Connect. There are also more security cameras and license readers downtown.

According to police, the shooting occurred on the 500 block 11th Street Southeast at 8:20 p.m. MPD reports that two men shot in the head inside an SUV. One man found dead at the scene, while the second declared dead at the hospital. Othaniel Gaither 34 years old, from Southeast, D.C., the first to identified. The identity of the second man is currently withheld until next-of-kin notification.

Southeast DC: Police are asking the public for help in finding a car that they suspect is link to Monday’s shooting at a DC high school, which left a teenager with serious injuries.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred in the 2200 block 14th Street at 2:15 p.m. close to DC Prep Anacostia Elementary campus.
Officers arrived to find a 13-year old boy shot. He was breathing and conscious when officers arrived at the scene. MPD reports that the boy treated for his injuries and will likely survive.
Police released Monday night a photo of the car that they believed involved in the shooting. A surveillance camera captured the gray/silver Hyundai and gave it the license plate 9DJ0820. MPD offers an update following a deadly double shooting in Southeast D.C. on Sunday, March 12, 2023.
Police said that a third man in the vehicle with the two victims and taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to police, the incident began with two cars shooting at one another.
“It’s personal to me tonight, just as it was in the past. Tasha Bryant, MPD First District Commander, stated that any loss of life, as I have said on numerous occasions, is one too many. “Tonight, it is a tragedy. My heart is broken that we are here again discussing gun violence.”
