Natural Causes of Sinead O’Connor’s Death As the Coroner Says

On Tuesday, London coroners’ office confirmed that Irish singer Sinead O’Connor died due to natural causes.

Ms. O’Connor, 56, was discovered deceased at her London residential property on July 31. Soon thereafter, the local coroner announced their intent to conduct an autopsy of her body.

On Tuesday, the coroner issued a brief statement declaring that Ms. O’Connor died due to natural causes, and therefore they have “cease[d] their involvement” in her death. No further information about its cause of death were given by them.

Ms. O’Connor rose to global stardom during the 1990s for her iconic rendition of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” not only because of her musical talent but also through her political provocations both onstage and off. Perhaps most memorably, Ms. O’Connor famously tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II at a 1992 “Saturday Night Live” performance to protest child sexual abuse within Roman Catholicism.

Jon Caramanica, pop critic for The New York Times, described Ms. O’Connor as more than simply an entertainer or pop star in an appraisal for The Times.

“She was an uncompromising advocate for social progress who found stardom to be an illness,” wrote Mr. Caramanica. He further noted her “ferocious gifts as an interpreter”.
