Stephan Gandhi Jones Father Jim Jones Blame to Jonestown Massacre
Jim Jones founded The Peoples Temple as a ministry to further his own agenda. On Nov. 18, 1978, more than 918 hundred people died and committed suicide in Jonestown, Guyana – leaving behind an unspeakable horror that still envelops us today.
Those who survived – many of them young men – must have found a way to carry on. Of the 918 who perished during the Jonestown massacre on November 18th, investigators determined 907 died from poison ingestion – including nearly 300 children.
They used cyanide and either administered it with syringes or mixed it with powdered soft drink called Flavor Aid. Others shot or stabbed that day; Jim Jones himself found with a single bullet wound to the head. Jim Jones founded his ministry, the Peoples Temple, in Indiana where they advocated social justice, racial equality, class equality and desegregation.
Where Is Stephan Gandhi Jones Now? And His Interview
Stephan Gandhi Jones is the son of Jim Jones, the controversial religious cult leader. His daughters have witnessed him grunt his teeth when discussing his father, yet they also heard him speak lovingly of him and how he taught him compassion and other virtues.
On Nov. 18, 1978, more than 900 people died at Jonestown from drinking punch laced with cyanide. Stephan not at the settlement founded by his father but rather playing basketball for the Jonestown basketball team in Georgetown, Guyana – 150 miles away and still playing when the murder-suicide occurred.
After being jailed for three months in South American nation before having their case against them dismissed, 19 year old Stephan told The Washington Post in 1983: “If I hadn’t lost everything and gone through prison experience I think I would’ve probably be pretty screwed up now.”
Over the past four decades, Stephan has been willing to give media interviews. As depicted in the above video, he featured in History Channel’s 2007 documentary Jonestown: Paradise Lost and writes for Alternative Considerations of Jonestown & Peoples Temple run by San Diego State University.
Many of his previous interviews echo what he discusses in Jonestown: The Women Behind The Massacre but he has an intimate perspective when discussing his father and mother who both perished during the event (as PEOPLE reported a year after their deaths two of Stephan’s adopted siblings also perished at Jonestown).
In a 2007 interview with Religion News Service published by Dallas News, Stephan revealed his struggles with drug addiction after Jonestown but is now sober. “I feel blessed to have reached such a low point and surrounded by amazing, wonderful, honest, compassionate and challenging people who helped me through that,” Stephan said.
In 2008, NBC reported that Stephan has three daughters; there’s a photo of Stephan with one of them on Alternative Considerations’ website. It remains uncertain whether he is currently married or still maintains contact with any remaining siblings.
In 2008, NBC reported that Stephan Jones was the vice president for an office installation company in the San Francisco Bay Area. His LinkedIn profile indicates he still holds this position at MB Contract Furniture today; as evidenced by his 1983 interview with The Washington Post, this line of work had already started before then.
Throughout interviews such as 2007’s Canada’s The Globe and Mail, Jones has discussed his spiritual beliefs – though these differ from the fringe Christian ones his father once preached about.
While Jonestown: The Women Behind The Massacre focuses on those close to Jim Jones, Stephan remains passionate about his mother who struggled with her husband’s affairs.
Even as he attempts to lead a peaceful life far removed from Jonestown, Stephan remains willing to discuss his connection to one of America’s worst tragedies — even as he strives for peace in his personal life.

Additionally, this designer piece featured an overskirt which the star proudly showed off while walking down the red carpet.
Delevingne finished off her ensemble with black satin Casadei platform sandals and an amazing 74.73 carat necklace made of De Beers diamonds!
