Hunter Day Teacher An Oklahoma teacher is accused of engaging in sexual activity with a high school student after the boy’s parents reported nude photographs and text messages on their son’s phone to authorities.

Hunter Day, 22, of Yukon High School in Yukon, Okla., was arrested Wednesday after authorities claimed he used his phone to confirm a meeting and was discovered sitting on her living room floor with the lights off and candles lit.

Day, who police believe admitted to having a sexual relationship with the boy, is charged with rape in the second degree, possession of child pornography, and soliciting sex from a minor using technology according to Canadian County Sheriff’s Office officials on Facebook. The day is being held on $85,000 bail.

Canadian County Sheriff Chris West lamented, “This is an egregious breach of public trust.” School teachers are entrusted with protecting and educating our children – not engaging in an illicit sexual relationship with them.”

Authorities were made aware of the alleged relationship after receiving a complaint from the boy’s parents, who were concerned that their son had already had sexual relations with his Hunter Day Teacher — whom he believed to be his chemistry teacher at the time. It remains uncertain whether Day, who taught science classes, actually instructed their student.

Police report that a Hunter Day Teacher admitted to engaging in sexual activities with her students and sending nude pictures via Snapchat, police say.

Officials said the parents requested investigators to conduct a forensic review of their son’s phone. Through this examination, it was discovered evidence that Day and the boy already had sexual relations and were planning to resume it at her residence on Wednesday.

Utilizing information from the boy’s phone, investigators sent Day a text message confirming their meeting; Day replied by text message “Yes,” according to investigators.

On arrival at Day’s home, investigators sent him a text message from his phone that read “I’m here,” according to authorities. Day replied with another text message saying that his doors had been left unlocked as usual, and upon identification opened the door and introduced themselves.

Officials reported that Day had fully cooperated and acknowledged their sexual relationship, sending photos of herself wearing both bras and undergarments. She also confirmed receiving images of the boy’s penises.

Unfortunately, attorneys for Day could not be reached immediately

Day was hired as a science teacher at Yukon High School at the start of this school year, according to an October report by Oklahoma City-based News 9.

She is one of 1,500 emergency-certified teachers hired without education training in Oklahoma to address Hunter Day Teacher shortages.

It’s one of many solutions Oklahoma is dealing with an acute budget crisis that has caused class sizes to soar, art and foreign-language programs to shrink or disappear, and schools in many districts to operate just four days a week.

News 9 reported that Day had little or no teaching experience. She held a degree from Oklahoma Baptist University and at one point planned on attending medical school. Day had signed on for 10 months at the school as an instructor but said she hoped to obtain her certification requirements so she can return next year.

Emergency-certified Hunter Day teachers are filling classrooms across Oklahoma from pre-K to high school, and they attend training throughout the school year that helps them manage student behavior problems and other classroom issues, according to News 9.

“When I first decided to pursue parenting, my biggest worry was behavior management,” Day revealed to News 9 in October. “I worried that I wouldn’t be able to manage the kids properly or that they might look at me and think ‘Oh well, you’re only a kid too and don’t need to pay attention’.

Yukon Public Schools issued a statement Thursday afternoon noting they conduct background checks on employees prior to hiring them and found no indication of Day’s alleged misbehavior.

The district is cooperating with authorities and cannot release further details about the incident while its investigation continues
