The Miami Hurricanes have landed a big-time talent from Louisiana. Four-star running back Trevonte Citizen chose the home state Hurricanes over LSU, Auburn and Florida.

In a nutshell, the Hurricanes’ recruiting machine has been cranking out elite players since Mario Cristobal’s arrival in Miami. His ramp-up has been impressive, priming the burgeois for a top-10 class in the future.

As for TreVonte’s decision to choose the Miami Hurricanes over LSU and Auburn, it certainly is a statement win. He’s a talented athlete who combines high-floor physical characteristics with untapped potential as a true running back.

He has what it takes to be a major player in Coach Cristobal’s offense. With a downhill runner like Citizen on the roster, the Hurricanes will be able to put the ball in the hands of a player with the speed and breakaway speed to outrun the competition.

The Hurricanes also landed a four-star cornerback Khamauri Rogers. This is a big deal for the program, as the Hurricanes have not had a top-rated cornerback in the class for quite some time.

A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, TreVonte Citizen has a father that played running back at McNeese State in the 1980s. His father played football for several years and was named the Louisiana Player of the Year in 1983.

While he was at McNeese, he was coached by Coach Thomas Tate. He was also part of the team that went 49-26 during his time at the school.

Tony Citizen is a local legend in Church Point. He played at McNeese for six games and averaged 726 yards. During his track season, he helped LC College Prep win the Class 3A track and field championship. He is still preparing for the next year.

Besides his father, TreVonte has two uncles that played for the Cowboys. Terry Holt and Terry Williams were both future LHS Sports Hall of Famer. Bobby Bordelon and Harles Smart are other future Hall of Famers.

In addition, his mother, Natasha Citizen, is an athlete. Her husband, Tony Citizen, is a former professional athlete.

Miami’s offensive philosophy

Miami has a number of talented running backs on their roster. Their rushing yards per game rank 12th in the ACC. However, this team has not been able to produce a 1,000-yard rusher since the end of 2016.

Miami’s offense is spread, allowing for multiple RBs to be highly productive. However, their offensive line is not as good as it once was. Aside from Don Chaney Jr., who has undergone major knee surgery, the team is missing two other offensive linemen.

One of the biggest names of this year’s recruiting class is TreVonte’s Citizen. He’s a four-star running back from Lake Charles, Louisiana. Before making his commitment to Miami, he was a finalist at LSU and Florida.

In three high school seasons, Citizen rushed for 1,121 yards. He’s currently the ninth-best RB in the Class of 2022.

With a big frame, Citizen is able to slash through defenders. He’s a capable receiver out of the backfield and can catch passes in the air. If Citizen is a fit in Mario Cristobal’s system, he could develop into a starter in the future.
