Double-click the speed set too low

The most common defect of the double-clicking issue is the double-click speed setting for the mouse is setting too low when set very low; clicking at two different times may interpret as an instead of double click. To adjust the double-click setting follows the simple steps below for the new Windows version.

  • The Windows 8 and 10
  • The Windows 7 and earlier

Windows 8 and 10

  1. I am pressing the Windows key, type mouse settings, and press Enter.
  2. In the Settings window, under Related settings, clicking the Additional mouse options link.
  3. In the Mouse Properties window, then click the Buttons tab, if not selected already.

Windows 7 and earlier

  4. In the Buttons tab, adjust the slider in the Double-click speed option, press OK.
  5. Test the double-click speed adjustment to see if that helps to resolve the double-clicking issue. Repeat the steps above, if needs, to adjust the setting again.

Corrupt system files

If system files become corrupt in the Windows operating system, it will cause various hardware or software functionality problems. Whether or not corrupt Windows system files will affect a mouse with single or double clicks.

If one knows the day the problem started happening with the mouse, One will try activating a restore point to take Windows back to a date before the trouble starts happening. Doing so will fix the corrupt system files and restore the proper function to the mouse.

Dirty mouse

Suppose dust and dirt are clogging up the mouse buttons. It will cause them to stick. A sticky mouse button will result in a double-click action even if one click the mouse button only once. Additionally, if the liquid is spilt on or around the mouse, it will cause mouse buttons to be sticky, result in accidental double-click actions.

One will frequently clear out dust and dirt from around and under the mouse buttons with compressed air to blow it out. Unfortunately, the spilt liquid is more complex. If impossible, to clean out from under and around the mouse buttons. If the fluid is water, one will try letting the mouse dry out to see if that clears up the issue. Suppose the liquid is something other than water. It frequent leaves behind a sticky residue that is very hard to clean out even after drying out. For these cases, we recommend one mouse to replace.

Wireless signal interference

If one uses a wireless mouse, the double-clicking issue may cause interference of the mouse’s wireless signal to the wireless receiver. If the wireless signal is interrupted by interference, it will cause the computer to receive false alerts or misinterpret signals from the mouse. Common types of interference are the following.

  • EMI Electromagnetic Interference from speakers of a computer.
  • Electrical interference from the monitor of a computer.
  • RFI Radio Frequency Interference from the wireless network router.

Avoiding electrical interference, try to position the mouse’s wireless receiver far from a computer speaker. Even moves the receiver a few inches away will sometimes resolve the problem.

To reduce or eliminate RFI, make sure the mouse’s wireless receiver is not directly inline between the computer and wireless router if there is a cordless phone near the computer. Move the cordless phone’s base many feet or more away from the computer.

Defective mouse

Another possible cause of the double-clicking issue is failure to function normally mouse. It will have a defective circuit board, causing it to recognise a single click as a double-click action incorrectly. Whether this is the case, the best resolution is to purchase a new mouse. It’s not worth having a mouse fixed as a new basic mouse is inexpensive.

Suppose one has a more expensive mouse, like a gaming or multi-button programmable mouse. One will check if the mouse is under warranty and see on getting it repaired.

So, it is vital information on the topic of When I click my mouse, it sometimes double-clicks.
