Zenitsu: Agatsuma is the main character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and a travelling companion of Tanjiro Kamado and Nezuko Kamado, along with Inosuke Hashibira. In the Demon Slayer Corps, he is also a Demon Slayer.
Appearance of Zenitsu
Zenit is an average-height young man with fair skin and scared-looking eyes that fade from soft brown to gold. He has short, yellow hair that falls in irregular bangs in front of his face, cutting off squarely at the ends where it fades to a darker orange colour.
Zenit’s hair was originally black before he became a Demon Slayer, but it turned the colour it is now after he was struck by lightning during his training.
His limbs momentarily shrank during the battle at Natagumo Mountain due to the Spider Demon (Sonvenom,)’s but they were able to restore to normal thanks to the medicine given to him by Shinobu Kocho.
His normal Demon Slayer outfit consists of a dark brown gakuran jacket, a white belt around his waist, and hakama pants that stretch, as well as his characteristic white-triangle patterned, yellow and orange gradient haori.
Zenit also wears a pair of Kyahan with the same pattern as his haori and three white bows tied at the front, pale brown tabi socks, and white-laced zari.
Personality of zenitsu
Zenit comes out as a coward, claiming that he doesn’t have much longer to live owing to the deadly nature of his job as a Demon Slayer.
Despite his strength, he has low self-esteem and even considers himself useless, as seen by the fact that he couldn’t believe he had killed a demon and convinced himself that it was Shoichi, despite the fact that the latter was a small child with no unique demon-slaying abilities.
Zenit is constantly terrified and sobs and attempts to flee whenever he sees danger, claiming that he prefers to live a simple, normal life rather than that of a Demon Slayer. Zenit cries and shouts a lot as a result of this, which can annoy the people around him.
He’s also shown to be pessimistic at times, like during the Hashira Training Arc, when he screamed at Tanjiro and Inosuke for seeing the training in a positive light.
Despite these flaws, Zenitsu still wants to live up to the expectations that people have for him and will put up his best effort when necessary.
When he is in a dilemma, he has enormous respect and affection for his colleagues and his slain master, Jigoro Kuwajima, and his inner focus and drives to avenge him assist him in wiping away his timidity and second thoughts. Zenit likewise despises himself for being cowardly and inept and is sincerely trying to improve himself.
Zenit is also shown to be a want to be womaniser, motivated by a desire to avoid being single if he is slain. He has a habit of hitting on gorgeous girls and asking them to marry him, much to their chagrin. When he believes his colleagues are “flirting” with pretty girls, his womanising nature takes over, and he goes into long hysterical rants and complaints.
Zenit appears to have a strong crush on Nezuko, publicly expressing his feelings for her and instinctively protecting her.
He is also observed to get physically hostile during these occasions, lashing out at them in frustration.
Zenitsu, on the other hand, shows that he respects women by instructing Daki to release go of a girl who Daki nearly tore the ear off of and then sought an apology from.
Zenitsu, being the only boy in the trio who has grown up in the city, has a greater understanding of how the city functions and is frequently humiliated by his partners’ stupidity.
Zenitsu puts out a different, more serious feeling before the raid on the Infinity Castle, as if he is focused on something essential.
After receiving a letter from Chuntaro, which disclosed his master’s death and Kaigaku’s role in it, this development transpired.
Zenitsu is stern and angered during his fight with Kaigaku, leading him to fiercely yell at him for disrespecting their cultivator. Zenitsu’s abrupt turnaround astounds his ex-senior, as he adopts a more mature demeanour than his typical fear.
Abilities of Zenitsu
Overall Abilities: Zenitsu has always been a talented and skilled Demon Slayer, despite his denials. Zenitsu’s actual strength wakes while he is sleeping, as his nerves that typically prevent him from accessing it give out, allowing him to become more sagacious, calm, and accurate in fighting, allowing him to decapitate the Tongue Demon and defeat the Spider Demon (Son) on his own.
Later, he was able to defend three train carriages that were being attacked by Enmu, Lower Rank One, and Nezuko. With the help of Inosuke, he was able to battle toe-to-toe with an awoken Daki a few months later, and later blitz her with Thunderclap and Flash:
God Speed. Zenitsu was able to advance to the highest degree of the Hashira Training, demonstrating his strength even further. Zenitsu’s ultimate strength, however, appears to be when he can fight when awake, as he was able to match the new Upper Rank Six, Kaigaku, in power on his own, and then blizted and beheaded him before he could react.
Furthermore, despite being badly weakened by the Anti-Kibutsuji Drug, he was able to stay up with and defeat the Demon King, Muzan Kibutsuji. Nonetheless, by the end of the series, Zenitsu’s strength had most likely equaled that of the Hashira.
Zenitsu’s hearing is enhanced, allowing him to notice danger even from the tiniest of sounds. He has demonstrated his extraordinary hearing by deciphering layers upon layers of sound in one of the brothels and even the Infinity Castle.
He can precisely duplicate whatever tune he hears on a Shamisen and Koto after only hearing it once for the first time,[9] achieving perfect pitch despite having no musical background.
Zenitsu’s exceptional hearing also allows him to battle while sleeping, which is an incredible feat given that he has no visual aid and can only utilise sound to discern his surroundings while fending off demon attacks.
• Extrasensory Perception: Zenitsu’s hearing allows him to hear and pick up noises that are outside the normal range of perception, such as discerning a person’s thoughts, feelings, and even personality simply by listening to the faint sounds they make. Furthermore, he can tell the difference between a human and a demon by comparing their noises, which helps him to estimate their strength to some extent because Daki, an Upper Rank demon, has a more terrifying sound than typical demons.
Zenitsu’s physical strength has improved dramatically as a result of years of rigorous training. Zenitsu may use his bare hands to hold Inosuke Hashibira down and toss his complete body by gripping and swinging one of his legs.
Most importantly, Zenitsu possesses extraordinary leg strength, allowing him to perform his Thunder Breathing methods at dizzying heights and speeds. He was also able to injure Muzan’s body, which possesses the best durability of all the demons, demonstrating his physical strength.
Zenitsu has incredible speed and reflexes, and can move faster than the human eye can see. Even when he was at his lowest, his speed allowed him to easily dodge the assaults of various demons, including the Tongue Demon and Spider Demon (Son),
and subsequently blitz them. As he progresses, his speed has increased to the point where Upper Rank demons, such as Daki and Kaigaku, who employ the same breath style as Zenitsu, are unable to comprehend and notice his motions. Furthermore, Zenitsu was able to outrun Kaigaku’s lightning Blood Demon Art and slit his neck before the assault could reach him.
In a split second, he was able to chop down all of Enmu’s flesh appendages on the Mugen Train, as well as Daki’s sashes, which were imprisoning innocent people. Perhaps his most impressive performance was outmanoeuvring and out-speeding a weakened Muzan Kibutsuji while dealing major damage to him.
Zenitsu possesses exceptional stamina and endurance, which complements his incredible speed. He has been shown to fight even after being poisoned with an extremely powerful poison that was slowly converting him into a spider.
He fought Daki for a long time, even after being wounded by the Upper Rank and then imprisoned under rubble, but he was still able to use his Thunderclap and Flash: God Speed techniques against her.
Even after being scorched by many Blood Demon Art-enhanced Thunder Breathing techniques, he was able to continue fighting with Kaigaku and eventually summon enough power to execute his ultimate technique and win the fight.
During the Sunrise Countdown Arc, he was able to exert himself for an extended amount of time and briefly overpower Muzan Kibutsuji, even surpassing his daily restriction of two uses of his Thunderclap and Flash: God Speed techniques.
Zenitsu possesses unshakable willpower and spirit, which he uses to destroy demons. He demonstrated this when he flatly refused to allow Inosuke kill the demon inside Tanjiro’s box, and defended it to the last end despite being beaten mercilessly by Inosuke.
Despite receiving several slash wounds all over his body and having his feet broken, Zenitsu maintained the resolve to continue battling against Daki when he was sleeping.
Zenitsu was able to overcome his cowardice and stay awake in battles against demons thanks to his sheer will and rage, as evidenced by his fights with Kaigaku and Muzan, especially the latter, in which he refused to give up.
Fighting Techniques
Zenitsu is a master swordsman, particularly in his ability to perform Iaijutsu-style swordplay and the Thunderclap and Flash technique, to the point where he can generate offshoots of the technique and use it even while he is sleeping.
His swordsmanship ability helped him to repel dozens of spiders and defend three train waggons from Enmu’s attacks. Zenitsu’s swordsmanship skill improved to the point where he could fight Upper Rank demons of the Twelve Kizuki and later matched a severely weakened Muzan, implying that his swordsmanship skill has most likely improved to the point where it matches that of the Hashira, the Demon Slayer Corps’ highest-ranking and most powerful swordsmen.
Swordsmanship
Thunder Breathing (Kaminari no koky?) is a style of breathing. Zenitsu learnt from a cultivator and his teacher, Jigoro Kuwajima, but he was unable to master all of the swordsmanship forms and could only use the first of the six forms, Thunderclap and Flash.
Zenitsu, on the other hand, has become extremely skilled at fighting and winning with just the initial form, generating various variations and adjustments as well as being able to successfully use the method while unconscious.
Zenitsu went on to create an entirely new form, Thunder Breathing, which had previously only been done by Hashira, notably Giyu and Muichiro. With this form, he was able to turn the tables on his opponent, Kaigaku, and swiftly overpower and decapitate him.
• Thunderclap and Flash (Ichi no kata: Hekireki Issen?) (First Form)
The user draws their katana from its sheath, sprints forward with breakneck speed, and decapitates their opponent before they can respond. This style is very similar to Iaijutsu, and the moves are characterised as “lightning ripping through the air.”
• Sixfold (Rokuren?)- A Zenitsu-created extension of the Thunderclap and Flash method. Thunderclap and Flash are performed six times in fast succession by the user, with the power and speed of his dashes slightly increased.
• Eightfold (Hachiren?)- A variation of Zenitsu’s Thunderclap and Flash method. Thunderclap and Flash are performed eight times in quick succession by the user, with the power and speed of his dashes slightly increased.
• Shinsoku (God’s Speed)- A Zenitsu-created extension of the Thunderclap and Flash method. Thunderclap and Flash are performed while dramatically increasing the speed of the method.
During the initial demonstration of this method, an unconscious Zenitsu noted that he shouldn’t do it more than twice since muscle fatigue and tiredness would render his legs worthless. During the battle against Muzan Kibutsuji, however, Zenitsu demonstrated increased expertise in this technique, allowing him to utilise it more than thrice while keeping the technique’s force and speed.
• Honoikazuchi no Kami (Shichi no kata: Honoikazuchi no Kami?) (Seventh Form)
Zenitsu Agatsuma’s unique work. The user runs forward at breakneck speed, unleashing a single forward slash accompanied by a yellow Japanese dragon in the shape of a lightning bolt.
