Edward Willis Levert, known by his stage name Eddie Levert, is an American singer-songwriter born June 16, 1942 in Bessemer, Alabama. He achieved prominence as lead vocalist of R&B group The O’Jays which he co-founded along with high school classmates from Canton Ohio.
Levert first found music through church choir singing, school productions, gospel radio broadcasting and gospel radio stations at an early age and quickly established himself as an established voice within these environments..
Levert was married to Raquel Capelton and together they had three children: Sean, Gerald and Eddie Jr. Sadly, Levert suffered two tragic losses at such an early age: Sean in 2008 due to complications associated with drug withdrawal while Gerald passed in 2006 due to both drugs and medical complications.

Eddie Levert was diagnosed with COVID-19 during his tour preparations in 2022 and admitted to the hospital as a result of COVID pneumonia, needing massive amounts of oxygen treatment. Although currently recovering, Eddie continues to deal with his health challenges by working closely with vocal coaches and therapists to restore his voice.
Eddie Levert’s accomplishments as a musician are numerous and include induction into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Vocal Group Hall of Fame. With The O’Jays, Levert released numerous hits such as “For The Love Of Money” and “Love Train”.
