Rod Wave new album 2023 is Nostalgia. Following his November 2022 EP Jupiter’s Diary: 7 Day Theory and August 2022’s Beautiful Mind, this 18 track collection contains collaborations with Wet, 21 Savage and Sadie Jean for an R&B vibe with subtly used rapping skills; often singing about heartbreak or betrayal among peers or former partners before using his powerful lyrics to provide motivation by singing of how struggle was over come; thus making his point that anyone could do it too.

“Fight The Feeling”, was released as the album’s lead single on March 31, 2023 and peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This catchy and upbeat tune expresses Rod’s conflicted emotions regarding an unhealthy relationship, such as in its chorus: “I don’t wanna fight the feeling / But I feel I gotta let go”. With its catchy hook and easy flow, this tune allows listeners to easily sing-a-long with its smooth melody.

“Boyz Don’t Cry”, released September 11, 2023 and debuting at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as an emotional ballad, quickly rose to become Rod’s first number-one hit. This song addresses stigmatism around masculinity while at the same time exploring its implications: men must suppress feelings in order to appear tough while showing emotion through actions or words (Rod sings: “They say boyz don’t cry / But I shed a tear for you / They say boyz don’t cry / But I’m crying out for you”). Additionally, its piano-driven instrumental and its powerful yet vulnerable vocal range highlight Rod’s talent and range.

Nostalgia features memorable tracks like “Call Your Friends”, “Come See Me”, “Checkmate”, and “Turks & Caicos”, which showcase his signature storytelling and melody style. Nostalgia received overwhelming critical acclaim from both fans and critics alike who lauded Rod’s authenticity, creativity and consistency in storytelling and melody. Nostalgia debuted at #1 on Billboard 200 chart week ending September 21, 2023 selling 137,000 album-equivalent units – making him only second artist after Taylor Swift to score three consecutive number-one albums in US charts in three consecutive years!
