Maddow discussed how important her relationship with Mikula is to her and how she has been battling COVID in a video posted on Thursday.
“At the end of the day, my love with Susan is the only thing I would kill or die for without hesitation,” she stated in the video. “Susan has been unwell with COVID for the past couple of weeks.” At one time, we were concerned that it might kill her, which is why I’ve been away.”

“At one time, we were concerned that it might kill her, which is why I’ve been away.”
She described her method as “extremely measured” in a 2011 interview with the Advocate. She could spend months contemplating images before ever starting to photograph. “I’m a very slow shooter,” she admitted.
“When I eventually get around to taking pictures, I want to know exactly what I’m looking for, what camera to use at what time of day, and at what precise moment.”
Since 1999, Maddow and Mikula have been together. The pair spends part of their time in New York and part of it in Western Massachusetts. Mikula was born and reared in the state of New Jersey.
Mikula hired Maddow to do yard work for her, and their first date was at the National Rifle Association’s “Ladies Day on the Range” event.
Maddow told New York in 2008, “When I met her, she had her initials in metal leaf on the door of her car.” “It’s scorching outside. It’s scorching outside.”
For much of her life, the MSNBC personality has battled depression. Mikula regularly assists Maddow when she is battling with her mental health, she told CBS News in 2016.
“When I forget that this happens to me and don’t know what it is, she would say, ‘You are depressed,’ and just being able to name it and then knowing that it won’t last forever and that it will pass and that it will ease at some point helps,” she told CBS.
Mikula has had a hand in some of Maddow’s on-air wardrobe decisions. She told New York that she urged Maddow to wear make-up and had a say in her clothing choices.
