It is a Japanese phrase meaning “So big” in English and is sometimes used to indicate the word “Great.” The term became with Uzaki Hana from Uzaki-chan. It means she wants to hang out, a short character with large breasts. She wears a shirt with the phrase, leading to the shirt combining with other large-breasted anime characters like Mega Milk.
Following are the release of the anime. Some viewers found the character’s design not suitable and did redesigns of the surface to make her look older. However, these were widely teasing and led to a sudden powerful forward of edits featuring the “Sugoi Dekai” shirt.
Origin of Sugoi Dekai
The Uzaki-chan manga debut on Niconico in December of 2017; she began to transmit it to memory on July 9th, 2018. Kazuya Miura directs an anime adaptation by Studio ENGI. Announcing by Kadokawa Corporation on February 3rd, 2020, and give the first performance in July of 2020. In many mangas, covers the first volume that shown below, left. Uzaki will spot wearing her characteristic shirt.
Spread on Sugoi Dekai
Following are the release of the anime. There was an arrival of artists drawing characters in Uzaki’s characteristic shirt. Same to Mega Milk, placing them next to a surface with small breasts for the close association. Remarkable examples of this trend are versions by Twitter users @toneeartwork on July 9th. Featuring Artoria and Mordred from Fate Grand Order; and @tabakko on July 21st. Featuring Kiryu Coco and Amane Kanata from Hololive, it gathers respectively over 56,500 and 22,400 likes on August 14th.
Some viewers take issue with Uzaki’s character design and act young, leading them to redesign the character. For example, on August 10th, 2020, user @catlateral_ posted their redesign, gaining over 3,800 retweets and 8,700 likes (shown below, left). User @ZeroT_H published a compilation of Twitter users posting redesigns, gaining over 4,100 retweets and 22,000 likes (pictured below, right).
The edits led to several redraws meant to emphasize what viewers saw as the poor quality of the upset artists’ work. For example, on August 13th, user @Trashqueen_01 posted a redraw making the character look like she came from Big Mouth. It is gaining over 2,300 retweets, and 19,000 likes that shown below, left. User @DSchfnack posted a variation showing Peter Griffin wearing the Sugoi Dekai shirt that is also pictured below, right.
On August 13th, user @skurletonVA posted a video parodying the entire drama is gaining over 5,300 retweets and 16,000 likes.
