Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his ex-wife Melinda French Gates are proud grandparents to their first grandchild, Jennifer Gates – the eldest child of the tech billionaire and philanthropist – who welcomed their baby last month. To share their joy with the world, Bill and Melinda took to social media platforms such as Instagram to announce the happy news.
Bill Gates was overjoyed and took to Instagram to share pictures with their new grandchild. Wearing a navy blue sweatshirt and pants, Bill posted an adorable image of himself holding onto the baby in a pink onesie – with the proud grandfather captioning the post: “I can’t wait to watch you explore the world!”
Melinda French shared an endearing picture of herself holding her granddaughter close to her chest, smiling brightly at the camera in an orange top and black trousers. In her caption, Melinda wrote, “There’s nothing quite like holding your first grandchild – it seems like just yesterday I was holding Jenn at this age! Now she has her own baby and I am overjoyed watching her and Nayel take their new role as parents.”
Congratulations were sent out to several prominent figures, such as Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, Union Minister Smriti Irani and YouTuber Nas Daily.
Jennifer Gates will tie the knot with Egyptian equestrian Nayel Nassar in 2021 at her home in Westchester, New York. Last year Bill Gates shared a blog post that his daughter’s pregnancy had given him new inspiration to work: “When I consider what kind of world my grandchild will inherit, I am more driven than ever to ensure all children and grandchildren have an equal chance to survive and flourish,”
